Pharmacogenomics (PGX) is the study of how an individual’s unique DNA affects their response to certain medications.
PG testing (PGX) can provide information about medications and dosages that are the safest and most effective for each person.
Certain gene mutations influence the processing of some medications ̶ how the body absorbs, uses, breaks down, or removes the drug.
If medications are not properly processed by our body because of a gene mutation, the medication may not be effective or could cause serious side effects.
If you are taking a medication influenced by one or more of the genes in our PGX panel, it can provide information specific to you.
This testing can indicate which medications may be most effective, what dosing is right, and whether or not you are at risk for side effects.
PGX is limited, meaning it can only tell you about certain medications ̶ not all of them.
Typically, health care providers rely on a “one size fits all” approach to prescribing medications.
The average dose, expected to obtain the desired effect, is prescribed without regard to an individual’s unique factors.
Typically, this method works only about half of the time, since average dosing does not take into account how a person’s own body may respond to a medication.
* Based on medication usage and dosing impacted by PGX testing
PGX testing at Scion Genomics is recommended if you:
Talk to your health care provider about having testing.

We provide you with a comprehensive report and an online tool
that is as dynamic as the people you treat.
This report details each of the genetic variations identified and the potential clinical impact to the patient.
GeneDoseTM Report User GuideThis dynamic risk management tool is available to health care providers after PGX genetic testing is completed on your patient.
You can add or remove information about your patient’s medical conditions, lifestyle and medication regime as well as view, real-time, the potential impact on the patient and what alternative medications to consider.
The tool’s link and log-in information are found on the first page of your patient’s PGX report. It’s simple to use, and the information provided makes it easy to alter as the patient’s situation changes.
